Proteus Visual Designer Student Competition

Proteus Visual Designer is a new product from Labcenter Electronics which enables users to "write" code using a drag-and-drop flowchart interface. The tool is designed to make microcontroller programming as easy and intuitive as possible, and automatically takes care of all the nitty-gritty behind the scenes work (such as automatically setting up digital/analogue I/O pins, by detecting how those pins are used in the application).
To promote Visual Designer, Labcenter are running a Student Competition, with prizes of up to $1,000 (approximately R15,000 at the time of writing).
To participate, students simply need to enrol their institution (high-school / university) in the competition. Competition software and licenses will be supplied to the institution, and students are challenged to come up with the most impressive Visual Designer design. Entries should be submitted to the teacher / lecturer at the relevant institution for judging, and the winning student will receive a free Professional Visual Designer license and software, as well as being entered into the worldwide competition for cash prizes ($1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place). For more information please click here for the competition poster, and/or contact us.

IR Gesture click Released

IR Gesture click is a mikroBUS add-on board that enables contactless gesture recognition, along with ambient light and proximity sensing capabilities with the APDS-9960 IC. This sensor integrates an LED and four directional photodiodes that receive the reflecting light. An internal gesture engine deduces the velocity, direction and distance of nearby objects (while cancelling the ambient light). You can implement a variety of gestures, from from basic directional swipes (up, down, left or right) to more complex combinations. Since the chip can work as a proximity sensor, the gesture engine can be configured to wake up automatically when a user's hand approaches. The board communicates with the target board MCU through the mikroBUS I2C interface, with an additional hardware inerrupt pin (INT). IR Gesture click uses a 3.3V power supply.
